Coventry City manager Mark Robins has been hailed a 'master' and tipped to lead the Sky Blues to league success this season

Reading manager Ruben Selles revealed that he was given the green light by the EFL on Friday tea-time to make a loan signing and brought in Wolves’ winger Chem Campbell, who, he said, was his “first option,” with the 21-year-old joining the club on a half season loan until January.

Robins added: “I think with Fabio, I am happy that didn’t materialise, that move. They’re totally different players (Tavares and Palmer) but you can’t have too many strikers. But then they have got to perform and be ready to go.”

Coventry City transfer news from CoventryLive as Sky Blues boss Mark Robins discusses a proposed deadline day move that didn’t come off.

Mark Robins admits he’s “happy” that Fabio Tavares stayed at Coventry City on transfer deadline day when the player was the subject of firm interest from League One Reading.

Although the Royals have been under a transfer embargo and unable to make signings until a proposed club takeover is complete and a budget confirmed, the EFL authorised the club to take a loan player last Friday when Tavares emerged as one of the club’s targets.

The Sky Blues, meanwhile, lost a senior forward on deadline day when Kasey Palmer “forced” a move to Championship rivals Hull City, leaving Robins a man down in terms of his squad numbers.

Asked about Tavares’ proposed loan move and whether it was a case of the 23-year-old not being allowed out because of Palmer’s exit, the City boss said: “There was a little bit more to it than that, but that’s not my remit now.”
