Bears Trade Proposal Swaps 2nd-Round Pick for $45 Million Pro Bowl Pass Rusher
The Chicago Bears are potentially still in the market for a game-breaking edge rusher, and Haason Reddick of the New York Jets fits the bill. Reddick is entering the final season of a three-year, $45 million contract and wants a new deal before he steps onto the field and risks injury. The Jets knew that when they traded a conditional third-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles for Reddick in March but have been unwilling to extend the Pro-Bowl outside linebacker in the months since.
In early August, Reddick officially requested a trade and the Bears were immediately floated as one of the top suitors. Dan Pizzuta of The 33rd Team listed Chicago along with three other franchises as the most likely landing spots for Reddick on August 12.
A couple of days after Reddick demanded his trade, the New England Patriots honored the trade request of Matthew Judon by sending him to the Atlanta Falcons for a third-round selection. Subsequent reports made clear that Chicago was a finalist in the Judon sweepstakes but came up just short. “Sources: Several teams were interested in Matthew Judon, but it ultimately came down to the #Bears and #Falcons, with Atlanta finalizing the deal today,” Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report posted to X on August 14.
