The New York Yankees Have Not Taken Advantage Of Their Recent Schedule
The New York Yankees have struggled to get going as of late. The team lost 10-6 in their series finale against the Texas Rangers on Wednesday. The loss makes the sixth defeat in the Yankees’ last nine games, all of which have been against teams that are nowhere near the playoff picture.
The Yankees won the opening game of the series against the Rangers before blowing a lead on Tuesday and allowing double-digit runs in the rubber game. The Bronx Bombers also lost two of three games to the St. Louis Cardinals over the weekend and could only pick up one win in a three-game series with the Washington Nationals. The Rangers have a bottom-five record in the American League this season. The Cardinals have played better as of late but still find themselves 5.5 games out of a Wild Card birth. The Nationals have the fifth-worst record in baseball. The Yankees haven’t played playoff-caliber teams as of late but have failed to pick up easy wins.
The Bronx Bombers hold the top Wild Card spot in the AL. The team trails the Baltimore Orioles by 0.5 games for the AL East division and has a 4.5-game lead over the Minnesota Twins and Kansas City Royals for the final Wild Card position. The Yankees play the Royals next week and host the Orioles during their final homestand of the season. The Yankees play their next series against the Chicago Cubs with the opening game at Wrigley Field scheduled for Friday afternoon. The team will look to pick up their first series victory since playing the Colorado Rockies in late August.
