The saga continues between the Boston Bruins and goaltender Jeremy Swayman, and now we know why he isn’t yet locked into a long-term deal with the team.

Earlier this off-season, the Boston Bruins traded Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators, leading many to believe that a long-term deal between the team and Jeremy Swayman would be the next big move to be made. Unfortunately, there may be some hard feelings remaining from the arbitration hearing that took place a year ago, as contract negotiations seemingly haven’t gone too far over the past few months.

Now, the reason has been unveiled by Ryan Whitney on the Spittin’ Chiclets podcast, as he revealed the Bruins’ latest offer to the superstar goaltender.According to Whitney, the Bruins’ latest offer to Swayman came in at $6.2 million AAV, and on top of that, the team haven’t returned calls from his side in up to three weeks, which isn’t a very promising sign with the new season just over a month away. This past season, the 25-year old native of Alaska posted a very impressive .916 save percentage alongside a 2.53 GAA in 44 games, and with Ullmark gone, it’s clear that he’s ready to shoulder the load moving forward.

However, this latest deal would have him over $2 million AAV behind the likes of Ilya Sororkin and Juuse Saros, and while he may not be the goaltender the caliber of Sergei Bobrovsky, it makes sense that he’s disrespected by an offer that comes in over $4 million per season behind the Panthers net-minder.

It’s unclear why the Bruins don’t want to give Swayman what the player and many fans and analysts believe is a fair deal, but with the season just over six weeks away, they’ll need to figure something out quickly.
