Spurs have a shortage of club-trained players following Skipp’s exit
Following the departures of Oliver Skipp and Japhet Tanganga, Tottenham only had two club-trained players – Alfie Whiteman and Brandon Austin, neither of whom are exactly Spurs first-team regulars.

Due to not being able to fulfil their quota of club-trained players, Ange Postecoglou had to name two fewer names in his squad than the allotted 25, choosing to leave out Sergio Reguilon and more consequently, Djed Spence, from the Europa League list.

Gold believes that this is an issue that the club should have seen coming, describing the lack of club-trained players as a ‘ridiculous situation’.

The journalist pointed out that this is something Mourinho pointed out during his tenure, with the former Spurs boss questioning the lack of talent in certain age groups.

Jose Mourinho highlighted the issue while he was Spurs boss
The journalist said on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham podcast: “Spurs stuffing themselves completely by poor squad management, really, over the years of just not having any now outfield senior club-trained players in their squad, which is a ridiculous situation to get yourself in.
