Coventry City made to rue missed chances in Watford draw
ELLIS Simms scored his first league goal of the season as Coventry City missed a number of chances in a 1-1 draw away at Watford.
Simms opened the scoring early on at Vicarage Road only for Tom Dele-Bashiru to equalise for the home side in the second half.
The result means Coventry sit 14th in the Championship table, four points outside of the play-off places.
Mark Robins’ side made the perfect start as Simms headed in Jack Rudoni’s corner via the aid of the post from six-yards out after just four minutes.
Watford spurned a glorious chance to draw level when Ryan Andrews’ ball from the right found Giorgi Chakvetadze in the box only for the latter to shoot wide from 15-yards out.
However, the Hornets drew level on 67 minutes as Dele-Bashiru turned home Chakvetadze’s cross from close range.
City had a golden chance to win the game soon after only for Haji Wright’s diving header from six-yards out to come back off the post from Ephron Mason-Clark’s cross.
And the Sky Blues went close again at the death as Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann tipped Rudoni’s powerful effort behind.
Coventry are next in action against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, September 18 with kick-off at 8pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
