One Question For Each Milwaukee Bucks Rookie

The Milwaukee Bucks added young talent to their roster during the 2024 NBA Draft, much like their conference rivals in the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics. The newest Bucks possess great potential and talent but they do have questions they need to address in the coming season. Here is a question that each of the rookies on the Milwaukee Bucks has to answer during the 2024-25 NBA season.

The Milwaukee Bucks selected AJ Johnson with the 23rd overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. The Illawarra guard’s talents lie in his ability to handle the ball, play-make for others, and being able to create his own shot. Furthermore, Johnson possesses a high level of athleticism and has a quick first step to beat opponents off the dribble. Johnson had a mostly disappointing Summer League, but he had moments when his potential shined. In a game versus the Los Angeles Clippers, Johnson had an efficient 22-point performance with four rebounds and four assists. That game encapsulated his potential on offense and demonstrated his defensive skill.

Despite his talent on the offensive side of the court, Johnson still needs to refine further and improve on that end. So, the biggest question for Johnson this coming season is whether or not he can improve his overall offensive game. As a rookie, Johnson will not be in the rotation for the Bucks. However, improvement this year could mean playing time for his sophomore year. Primary areas of improvement for Johnson are his three-point shooting and decision-making. He currently lacks consistency in his shooting beyond the arc. As for his decision-making, Johnson can be turnover-prone due to overaggressive play. If Johnson can improve overall offensively, he can be a useful backup guard in year two. As this is a year of development for him, Johnson needs to take every opportunity to improve in the G-League.
