Daniel Farke must bring in “very, very good” Leeds United option to resolve problem position – Sky Sports pundit
Leeds United manager Daniel Farke is going to need much better progressive play from his midfielders if he wants to break down low blocks in the Championship, which Ao Tanaka might be vital for moving forward.
Leeds’ defeat to Burnley brought up recurring themes of concern for fans watching on as Daniel Farke’s side were unable to muster up regular chances against a side sitting deep to protect a 1-0 lead at Elland Road.
What followed was a first defeat in drab circumstances, and how Leeds look to rectify this moving forward will be intriguing to see with Farke.
As was the case last season in games devoid of spark for Leeds, a frequent outlet to get out of a bind was finding the left-winger in positions of threat – unfortunately though, Burnley were able to snuff out Manor Solomon’s influence.
Meanwhile, Leeds were very rarely able to play in central positions and work openings that way, with Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev struggling with their progression of the ball, and then the lively Brenden Aaronson was taken off to see Leeds lose a nimble option in those tight spaces.
Substitutions did little to change the outlook of the game other than hampering Leeds’ chances of keeping up their attacking rhythm.
