Steven Schumacher to ‘reflect and recharge’ after Stoke City exit.
The former title-winning Plymouth Argyle manager was dismissed by the Potters on Monday, just nine months after joining them from the Pilgrims.
Steven Schumacher believes he learned a lot about himself, both as a person and as a manger, during his nine months at Stoke City.
Schumacher left Plymouth Argyle to take charge of their Championship rivals in December 2023, but his tenure at the bet365 Stadium lasted only 32 games as he was dismissed on Monday, after a 1-0 defeat away to Oxford United at the weekend.
Stoke have moved swiftly to replace the 40-year-old, with Norwich City’s Spanish coach Narcis Pelach appointed on a three-year contract, while Schumacher issued a statement via the League Managers Association about his Potters’ exit.
Schumacher said: “It came as a huge shock to me and my family to be told I had lost my job at Stoke City FC. The coaching staff and I have worked tirelessly over the last nine months and for our journey at the club to be cut short is hugely disappointing.
“Our objective last season was to keep the club in the EFL Championship. We achieved what we set out to and the way that we ended the season gave me great confidence that we could achieve this season’s objectives.
“We tried to create an atmosphere where everyone enjoyed coming to work and committed to giving 100 per cent every day. We won seven of our last 10 competitive games, and started this season by winning four of the opening seven fixtures.
