In the lone game down on the farm, Gwinnett came up short against Jacksonville. However, Ian Anderson looked sharp and Ozzie Albies inched one game closer to his return to Atlanta, so let’s dive into the action.

Gwinnett squandered a 3-1 lead in the late going on Wednesday, losing to Jacksonville by a 7-3 final.

Things were quiet on both sides offensively for the first several frames, as the game remained scoreless through the first four innings. However, that would change for each squad in the fifth inning.

The Stripers would jump on the board first in the top half of the frame. J.P. Martinez doubled to lead things off and Ozzie Albies singled him to third. After Nacho Alvarez Jr. grounded into a double play, Drake Baldwin came through with an RBI-double, scoring J.P. Martinez to make it a 1-0 Stripers lead.

On the mound for Gwinnett, Ian Anderson went six strong innings, allowing just one run in the bottom of the fifth as Jacksonville tied the game at 1-1. Anderson scattered just three hits while walking four and striking out five.

In the top of the sixth, Harold Ramirez drew a leadoff walk and would later score on an Andrew Velazquez single to give Gwinnett the lead again at 2-1. Then, in the next frame, Alvarez Jr. scored as Luke Williams reached on an error to extend the Stripers’ lead to 3-1.

However, after Anderson departed the game, the wheels fell off the wagon for Gwinnett.

Huascar Ynoa was the first reliever called on out of the bullpen and allowed Jacksonville to score three times in just his two-thirds inning of work, as the Jumbo Shrimp took a 4-3 lead. In the bottom of the eighth, Tommy Doyle came on in relief and allowed three runs — two earned — of his own as Jacksonville extended their lead to 7-3 which would hold as the final as the Stripers fell.
