Brenden Aaronson, Leeds United badge

Daniel Farke must axe Brenden Aaronson despite what Leeds United star did v Cardiff City.

Leeds United fans have been left with mixed emotions after Daniel Farke’s side secured a 2-0 win over Cardiff City on Saturday (21 September).

Despite claiming all three points at the Cardiff City Stadium, playing against 10 men for the best part of 70 minutes following Joel Bagan’s sending-off, the Whites were not too convincing.

Largie Ramazani opened the scoring just seven minutes after Bagan’s red card, finishing off a counterattack in style before Joel Piroe helped Pascal Struijk to put his penalty miss behind him.

Brenden Aaronson grabbed the assist as Piroe secured the win for Farke’s side, giving them some comfort just three minutes from time, but the American should be disappointed by his display.

The 23-year-old has regained a spot in the starting XI since returning from last season’s loan spell at Union Berlin, earning back Farke’s trust, and even the fans too.

While Aaronson was important in claiming all three points in the Welsh capital, his display was far from convincing, and Farke will recognise his lack of consistency in possession.

Though he did complete 80 per cent of his passes, the attacking midfielder lost 100 per cent of his ground duels (0/7) and won just 60 per cent of his aerial duels (3/5), seeing him lose nine duels in total [FotMob].

Aaronson was also dispossessed on four occasions, the most of any of his teammates as well as missing one big chance and being caught offside once.

The 23-year-old is currently going toe-to-toe with Piroe for the starting attacking midfield spot, and following the latter’s impact display against Cardiff, there is no question who should get the nod versus Coventry.
