Read Ex CCFPA Chair’s Latest Journal Blog About CCFC Int’l Managers!
Jim Brown (CCFPA’s founding member and until recently committee Chairman) has produced a long-standing, roughly weekly, Journal post about all things Sky Blue for many years. Parts of it have also appeared in a regular column for the Coventry Telegraph.
The posts are a mine of information about the club’s recent and long distant past. As most Sky Blue fans know Jim is also Coventry City FC’s official club historian. The latest journal entry of this 2024-25 Championship season has just been published online.
His latest posting concentrates on the perhaps surprising observation that, for a club not perceived by many as the biggest in the land, CCFC have more than pulled our weight in the modern game by having players with an international pedigree who have gone on to manage their country, particularly for the home nations.
Currently it is a fact that three out of the four home nations have ‘gaffers’ who were Sky Blue players, namely Craig Bellamy (Wales), Lee Carsley (England) and Michael O’Neill (Northern Ireland). Craig has taken over the Welsh team from Rob Page who was also a former Sky Blue who, like Lee, is a CCFPA member. Scotland, of course, have also had ex Sky Blues player and manager Gordon Strachan in the ‘gaffers’ seat in the fairly recent past.
