Cozier-Duberry sets Championship aim after Blackburn treble
Amario Cozier-Duberry is hoping his hat-trick for Blackburn Rovers’ Under-21s can be a springboard for his first Championship start.
The on-loan Brighton & Hove Albion winger was one of six first-team regulars who topped up their minutes in the Central League on Tuesday. Rovers beat Carlsile United 5-0, with Cozier-Duberry netting three.
He showed variety in his performance with three different type of goals. The first, a more trademark strike, cutting in from the right and firing in with his stronger right foot. The second was going past his defender on the outside and hitting across goal with his opposite foot.
He then took the penalty and showed good composure to send the goalkeeper the wrong way for his first career hat-trick.
“It was a good team performance first and foremost,” he told RoversTV.
“I’m happy to come away with my first career hat-trick, it was good. The first one was a rebound, a good shot from Todd (Cantwell). I cut inside and managed to find the bottom corner.
“Second goal, is something I’ve been working a lot on with my right foot. Taking defenders on the outside and then finding the bottom corner.
“I always try to be unpredictable so I need to be able to go outside on my right as well as coming inside on my left. I am proud of that.
“The more minutes the better. I’m building my fitness, trying to get more minutes into my legs and go from there with my fitness.”
Cozier-Duberry has been a substitute in the last two league games, getting a cameo off the bench for the first 15 minutes.
He looks bright at Deepdale and looks a threat with his pace and one-vs-one dribbling ability. He’s hoping to kick on from a decent start and earn his first Championship start against Queens Park Rangers this weekend.
