FOOTBALL – Coventry City secure morale-boosting win against Blackburn

COVENTRY City claimed a morale-boosting 3-0 victory against previously unbeaten Blackburn Rovers to end their five-game winless run.
Goals from Jake Bidwell, Haji Wright and Brandon Thomas-Asante secured just a second league win of the season for the Sky Blues at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

The result lifts Coventry up to 16th in the Championship table.

City broke the deadlock on 11 minutes when Bidwell headed in Jack Rudoni’s dangerous free-kick from the left from eight-yards out.

And Bidwell then created a chance for Milan van Ewijk from the opposite side only for the Dutchman to blast an effort into the side netting.

Coventry doubled their lead on 48 minutes when Wright intercepted a loose pass and drove into the box before cutting inside and firing a deflected shot into the net.

City almost extended their lead later in the half when Rudoni’s attempted ball across the box looped off a defender and onto the crossbar.

The Sky Blues sealed the points on 84 minutes as Aynsley Pears failed to keep out Thomas-Asante’s low effort from just inside the penalty area.

Coventry are next in action against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, October 5 with kick-off at 3pm at the CBS Arena.
