The ever-excellent DataMB have provided the numbers that show just what several people have been thinking; that Spurs full-back Pedro Porro is one of the very best in his position.

His crosses, passes to penalty areas, and deep completions aren’t just the best in the Premier League, but also across Europe. Their data has also suggested that the 25-year-old has been better than Ben White in every single measurable statistic so far this season.

Whilst there is no doubting Porro’s on-ball qualities, it cannot be overstated just how much the Spaniard has improved defensively.

His 2.3 tackles per game can only be bettered by Noussair Mazraoui, Malo Gusto, Joel Veltman, and Trent Alexander-Arnold out of players who play at right-back in the Premier League. That stat is even more impressive when you consider only Manchester City averages more of the ball than Spurs.

His 1.5 interceptions per game can also only be bettered by Kenny Tete, James Justin, and Ola Aina out of players who have been playing as right-back this season. Again, Spurs have significantly more of the ball than all of the teams those players play for, making it stand out that bit more.

If you had said to a Spurs fan after the 6-1 defeat to Newcastle United in April of 2023 that Porro would make it as Spurs, as a right-back, playing in a back four, long term – they would have laughed in your face. It is a serious testament to Porro and to Ange that he has come on so well since he took over back in the summer of 2023.
