Tom Cannon’s impressive four-goal haul for Stoke repaid the faith of new manager Narcis Pelach, who has told the Leicester City loanee that “five bad performances” won’t stop the striker being his main man.
Cannon spectacularly got off the mark for the Potters on Wednesday night, blasting in four goals in a 6-1 rout of Portsmouth. The 21-year-old, scoring for the first time since City’s FA Cup tie at Millwall in January, bent in a free-kick, slotted away a penalty and twice struck confidently with his weaker left foot.
The goals come just four days after Cannon was substituted at half-time in a 2-0 defeat to Middlesbrough, the Republic of Ireland international failing to get into the game once again in what had seemed like a tough start to his loan spell. But after withdrawing Cannon at the interval at the weekend, Pelach sat down with him to reiterate that he is Stoke’s lead striker.
