Dominic Solanke and James Maddison – One gets England call-up, one misses out
David Ornstein reveals that only one Tottenham Hotspur player will receive an England call-up later this afternoon as Lee Carsley names his second national squad.
Spurs are not the powerhouse they used to be
It wasn’t too many years ago that Tottenham boasted the highest number of players in the England squad and almost half the starting XI.
At one point, Harry Kane, Eric Dier, Dele Alli, Kyle Walker, and Danny Rose were all starting for the Three Lions while representing the Lilywhites of Tottenham.
However, in recent years, Spurs have struggled to get more than one English player into the national team set-up, especially now that Kane has flown the nest.
Dominic Solanke and James Maddison
As the two English starters in Tottenham’s regular XI, it stands to reason that Dominic Solanke and James Maddison are the most likely contenders for an England call-up.
Solanke hasn’t received a phone call from the England manager for seven years now, while Maddison was snubbed
both by Gareth Southgate at the Euros in the summer and Carsley in his first squad announcement last month.
Ornstein now reports that while Solanke is set to link up with the Three Lions this month, Maddison has once again missed out despite his fantastic form.
