Jorgen Strand Larsen under fire from Spanish media as comments resurface after Wolves transfer.

Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen has been put under the spotlight in Spain as comments made in 2023 re-emerge.

Signed from Celta Vigo on an initial loan this summer, Strand Larsen represented the target man that Gary O’Neil had been crying out for.

Things haven’t gone so badly for the forward since his move to the Premier League, seeing him score and assist in the top flight during his opening six appearances.

On the one hand, Strand Larsen has shown his potential however, that doesn’t change the dismal start to the campaign that Wolves have had as a collective.

Why Spanish media are unhappy with Jorgen Strand Larsen
Last season, the Norweigan netted 13 goals in the Spanish top flight for Celta Vigo before leaving the club to join Wolves in the summer.

While the forward is appreciated in Spain, he has recently come under fire for misconstrued comments he made in 2023 about the struggles of being in a relegation battle.

In a report, Spanish publication AS took aim at the Norway international with reference to such comments, relating them to the situation he currently finds himself in at Wolves.

AS wrote that Strand Larsen is ‘struggling’ once more, even stating that things have ‘gotten worse’ for the striker at Molineux.

The forward’s comments made on international duty in March 2023 were then quoted, as the Norweigan said how he had not yet been a part of a ‘good team’ that was ‘not always inferior’ in matches.

At the time, fans at Celta Vigo did not appreciate Strand Larsen’s words, as he went on to share his desire to play at a higher level by saying, ‘I think it will be possible to see that I have greater potential within me.’

Given the nature that Strand Larsen has shown at Wolves, it’s difficult to imagine that he’d make such comments with malice, as the 24-year-old later explained that there was a misunderstanding.

AS have not moved on from what the Premier League striker said last year, firing back by saying that since leaving Celta, his season has been a ‘disaster’, implying that the grass isn’t greener on the other side by referencing the Spanish club’s form.

Strand Larsen has great belief in Wolves project

It’s not been the best start to life in the Premier League for Strand Larsen, being a part of the losing side for five out of six matches.

Sitting bottom of the table with just one point on the board would not have been in O’Neil’s plans however, that hasn’t deterred the belief that the summer signing has in the project.
