Norwich City transfer news: Emiliano Marcondes signs.
Norwich City have completed the signing of free agent Emiliano Marcondes on a deal until the end of the season.
The Canaries have the option to extend that contract by a further 12 months next summer, having initially recruited him as cover in their injury-riddled attacking department.
He’s brought in with Onel Hernandez, Ashley Barnes and Christian Fassnacht all on the comeback trail from serious injuries, having proven his fitness after being released by Bournemouth earlier this year.
Marcondes will wear the number 11 shirt for Norwich, and has been registered in time to feature in tomorrow’s clash with Hull at Carrow Road.
He previously worked with City head Johannes Hoff Thorup at Danish side Nordsjaelland, where he both came through the academy when Thorup was a youth coach and returned on loan in 2023.
The 35-year-old moved to sign Marcondes from the Cherries just four days after being appointed as the Tigers’ head coach, and has now sealed their reunion on an initial short-term basis.
The attacking midfielder said of joining City: “It’s been a long time coming but I’m very excited to be here with the guys.
“I’ve been here for a couple of days training already and it’s been easier to settle in knowing some of the faces already.”
Speaking to official club channels, sporting director Ben Knapper added: “We’re delighted to welcome Emi to Norwich City.
“We feel he can really help support us in what we are building here. He has great quality, can play in multiple positions, and he brings some fantastic experience at this level having been promoted from the Championship on two previous occasions.
“He has also worked with Johannes before, so he understands exactly how we want to play, and he will really add to the competition and options that we have available in our squad.”
Before his move to Norfolk he training with Nordsjaelland, where he played more than 100 times before joining Brentford in 2018. He became a regular for the Bees early on, scoring at Wembley to fire them to play-off victory but falling out of favour in the Premier League.
To date Marcondes has played 286 games, scoring 63 goals and claiming 33 assists.
