Fitness checks for Norwich City duo Gunn & Cordoba

Norwich City defensive duo Angus Gunn and Jose Cordoba must be fully assessed before a final decision on whether the pair head away on international duty.

Gunn was substituted at half-time in Saturday’s 4-0 Championship win over Hull City with what his head coach, Johannes Hoff Thorup, confirmed afterwards was a rib issue.

While Cordoba was a late fitness call for the latest home win, after he sat out the second half of the midweek 1-1 league draw against Leeds following a suspected knee injury in the closing seconds of the opening period, defending his near post.

The Panamanian lasted the full 90 minutes against the Tigers, and is now due to fly home to Panama City for a training camp in the coming days, prior to North American friendlies against Josh Sargent’s USA and then Canada.

Scotland number one Gunn, meanwhile, was named in Steve Clarke’s squad for upcoming Nations League games against Croatia and Portugal.

“Too early to say. We have to assess him,” said Thorup, when pressed if Gunn would be fit for international duty. “He had a knock to his ribs after catching the ball, one of these crosses when he went out there, and you can see he was struggling a little bit.

“I think it was more painful to him. Of course, we don’t hope anything is broken, but you never know. And he was clear in half-time, he could not continue.
