Former Brentford youth star scores in trial game to help Middlesbrough under-21s to first win
Omaru King was released by Brentford in the summer
Exciting wide man Omaru King made quite the impression while on trial with Middlesbrough as he scored for the under-21s at Stoke City on Friday evening to help them get their first win of the Premier League 2 campaign.
King, who was released by Brentford in the summer, scored the opening goal of the bottom-of-the-table clash at the bet365 Stadium as Mark Tinkler’s Boro side won 3-1 to leapfrog the Potters off the foot of the table. King certainly did his chances of earning a contract at Boro no harm.
He received the ball midway into the Stoke half from his left-hand-sided position and drove to the penalty area, beating two Stoke defenders as he cut inside to a shooting position before curling a wonderful right-footed effort into the far corner. Though King’s goal would be cancelled out, recent first-team debutant Charlie Lennon put Boro back in front before Judah Tawiah broke to score Boro’s third late on.
King is another talent coming to Boro’s academy from the capital, where academy scout Martin Carter focuses a lot of his attention. Among his successful finds for Boro include Djed Spence, Isaiah Jones and Pharrell Willis. In the case of Spence and many others, they were young players Carter saw potential in, despite their release from other professional clubs, which is much like King.
