Born in Elgin (on 11th October 1973) ‘Elvis’ started out his professional career with Glasgow Rangers (1990-94) before the promising young central defender was brought to Highfield Road in October 1994 for £600k. Before he returned north of the border with Dundee United in 1995 Steven had clocked up nineteen top flight Sky Blue League appearances and a solitary goal versus Manchester United.

Three seasons with the ‘Terrors’ saw over 100 appearances before the move to Tynecastle, the home of Heart of Midlothian (where he briefly also held a caretaker manager position in 2005). ‘Elvis’ also added Scotland Full Caps to his previous U21 haul in the ‘noughties’ and later briefly (2008-09) became one of his country’s Assistant coaches. Steven saw out his playing career with spells at Celtic, Danish club Randers and, back in Scotland, Falkirk before moving into management.

In 2010 ‘Elvis’ was promoted to the gaffer’s chair at Falkirk (having been assistant manager since 2009) and it was from the Scottish club that Steven came back to Coventry as the Sky Blues new manager in March 2013 (taking over from current Sky Blues gaffer Mark Robins (in his first stint at the Ricoh).

In a turbulent time for the club Steven was at the helm during a time when he had to cope with points deductions (following administration), the club decamping to Northampton Town‘s Sixfields as well as various comings and goings in the boardroom. A run of poor results eventually led to his dismissal in February 2015 after a century of games in charge.
