Sean McLoughlin admits transfer speculation is part and parcel of being a footballer as he reflects on a summer which saw him heavily linked with a move away from Hull City.
Blackburn Rovers were one of the clubs who lodged a bid for the Republic of Ireland international, but City rebuffed those approaches, and McLoughlin has since become an ever-present in Tim Walter’s starting XI alongside central defensive partner Alfie Jones., but saw his run of eight straight ninety minute displays ended at Norwich City on Saturday when he was withdrawn at half-time at the expense of debutant Charlie Hughes.
Many expected McLoughlin’s five-year stay at the MKM Stadium may have come to an end, but he says he’s pleased to be at City, and accepts speculation goes with the territory.
“To be fair, not as close as people may have thought,” he told Hull Live. “In the summer, there’s all this speculation about a lot of players, and as a football player, it’s important that you keep your feet on the ground and don’t be reading into any of that kind of stuff. That’s what I tried to do, and obviously, I’m fully committed to Hull City. I’ve been here, it’s my sixth season now, so I love it here, and my aim is to be a Hull City player, and thankfully I am.
“I mean it comes with experience. Obviously, I’m 27 now, but for young players, it is definitely difficult when there’s speculation but the older you get, the more you realise that you can’t help any of that. You must focus on yourself, and that’s what I’ve tried to do, never read into anything too much because there’s a lot of crazy things said on social media as we know, so focus on yourself and focus on what you can effect.”
