Karl Darlow could become main man after another howler away from Leeds United.
Karl Darlow could become first-choice goalkeeper by default for Leeds United and Wales after Danny Ward’s error against Iceland.
Sgorio posted footage on X (11 October) showing Iceland’s second goal in their 2-2 draw with Wales, in which Ward was caught out at his near post by Logi Tomasson’s cross.
Ward’s failure to command his box left the goalkeeper isolated, and after the ball deflected off him to roll into the net for a scrappy own-goal, Darlow will have been watching from the bench with interest.
Darlow was also only able to watch on as an error from Illan Meslier cost Leeds two points in their 2-2 draw at Sunderland, and a case of deja vu on international duty could see the 33-year-old’s circumstances change.
Karl Darlow can become number one for Leeds United and Wales
It’s the second match in a row in which Darlow’s side has been undone by a goalkeeping error to draw 2-2, and that could see the veteran benefit by being brought into the starting side for both teams.
Meslier’s howler against Sunderland had to be seen to be believed, and although it’s unlikely Daniel Farke will take the Frenchman out of the firing line, Darlow will still be keen to force the issue.

Strong performances in his budding Wales career are the best way for Darlow to boost his minutes at Elland Road, and Ward’s shocker surely opens the door for him to start against Montenegro.
Darlow impressed on his Dragons debut against the same opponents last month, and picking up a first international clean sheet wouldn’t harm his chances of becoming number one for both club and country.
Signed as a backup by Leeds and only arriving to international football very late in his career, Darlow could now be thrust into the limelight by default, following two moments of goalkeeping madness.
In other Leeds news, a new United signing is “in the balance” with the player in question spending time at Thorp Arch this week.
