Setchell relieved as Steelmen overcome 'flat performance' to claim fourth straight win

MATCH REPORT: Bedworth United 1-3 Corby Town

Bedworth United were unable to cause an upset and came up short against league leaders Corby Town, losing 3-1 at The Oval.

The Greenbacks got off to the perfect start and took the lead after just four minutes. A quick corner from Grocott was taken and passed short to Luke Rowe who delivered a brilliant cross, Elliot Parrott rose the highest and his header looped past the Corby keeper Durrant. 1-0.

League top scorer Fletcher Toll came close to equalising not long after. The ball wasn’t cleared by the Bedworth defence and Toll was in a lot of space to get his half volley away but could only drag his effort just wide.

Neon Dobson was looking a threat down the right hand side for The Steelmen and had two opportunities to get Corby level. A long ball over the top was latched upon by Dobson who forced O’Brien into a great save, as he shot from just outside the box. His second attempt, the winger dribbled past a couple of Bedworth defenders before he got his shot away which whistled just wide.

The Greenbacks really should have made it 2-0 on the 26th minute. It was great link up play between Stone and Walters, with the former playing a brilliant killer pass into Walters path who just needed to lift over the Corby keeper but the winger just put too much on the ball and spiralled out for a goal kick.

Bedworth were to rue that missed chance as less than a minute later, Corby equalised. A great cross from the left found Matthew Slinn in acres of space in the box and he headed powerfully past Liam O’Brien. 1-1 after 27 minutes.

HALF TIME: Bedworth United 1-1 Corby Town

The second half got off to the worst possible start for Bedworth as Corby scored two goals within three minutes to all but seal the game with the whole second half left to play.

The Steelmen took just 45 seconds to take the lead through Neo Dobson who was a real threat all game. Dobson was played through one on one with just O’Brien to beat and he slotted past the keeper calmly to make it 2-1.

And then just three minutes later, league top scorer Fletcher Toll added to his tally to make it double figures for the season so far. Dobson again involved and grabbed an assist, a nice flick over the Bedworth high line meant Toll had a lot of time to compose himself and lash the ball past O’Brien confidently to make it 3-1 to the visitors.

The Greenbacks offered little going forwards with only speculative efforts for Wright, Candlin and Cox, with all three unable to really test the Corby keeper.

Corby were much the better side in the second half despite an even first half but two early goals after the interval were enough to see the visitors take all three points from The Oval.
