Hull City starlet Oscar Zambrano speaks out about potential doping ban
The summer signing from LDU Quito is currently away on international duty with Ecuador
Oscar Zambrano has spoken for the first time since joining Hull City about the potential of being banned for two years after allegedly breaking doping rules before his MKM Stadium move.
The 20-year-old is being investigated by the Ecuadorian FA relating to an issue dating back to March when he played for LDU Quito, but so far, no judgment has been handed down.
City and owner Acun Ilicali have vowed to stand by the youngster, should the worst happen, and he’s subjected to a ban, but there’s a growing hope it won’t come to that. Zambrano says he’s hopeful it will be resolved in a positive manner.
As it stands, Zambrano remains available for selection at City and now, with the national team, after being called up for this month’s World Cup qualifying double-header against Paraguay and Uruguay before returning to East Yorkshire later this week for the home clash with leaders Sunderland on Sunday afternoon.
“I know there are many doubts out there, but it is an issue where I can’t say much,” City’s midfielder told a translated interview with ECDF. “That issue is being handled by my lawyers. I think everything is going well. They told me that at times, that I should enjoy and play, that I should try to earn a position and that’s what I am doing.
“It is an issue that they are resolving and as I say, I believe that, thank God, it is on the right track, and at the end of the day, I am aware that it was not something that was intentional. I know that a lot of people misunderstand it out there, but that’s normal and people can make whatever comments they want, to think what they can, they have every right but inside of me, I know how things were and what really happened. I’m calm, I’m training hard and hoping that I’ll be given the opportunity (to impress).”
