Dave Roberts Opens Up on Shohei Ohtani’s Struggles in Game 2

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts opened up on Shohei Ohtani struggling at the plate in Game 2 against the New York Mets in the NLDS. Ohtani went 0-for-3 with two walks in Game 2 as he failed to record a hit while striking out twice. It was a frustrating performance for Ohtani, especially after he went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored in Game 1.

Following the Dodgers’ blowout 7-3 loss to the Mets, Roberts spoke to the media and was asked about Ohtani’s struggles in Game 2. Roberts claimed Ohtani didn’t look comfortable against Manaea, while he says the Mets pitcher was trying to keep the ball away from him.

“I thought he didn’t look comfortable versus Manaea,” Roberts said to the media in the post-game press conference. “The heater is away. You can see he was just kind of trying to keep the ball away from Shohei.” In Ohtani’s career against Manaea, he’s 2-7 with an RBI in nine plate appearances, while he’s walked twice and struck out twice. Manaea finished the game allowing three runs, two earned, two hits, four walks and seven strikeouts in five innings of work in the Mets win. Ohtani and the Dodgers will now go on the road for a pivotal Game 3 against the Mets on Wednesday. The first pitch is set for 8:08 p.m. ET.
