Anthony Gordon is not the fastest player at Newcastle United so far this season.
To the naked eye, you would think that Anthony Gordon is Newcastle United’s fastest player.
The 23-year-old is absolutely rapid, and can torment defenders with his incredible speed. With or without the ball, Anthony Gordon can hurt opponents with his pace.
The Newcastle United winger is frighteningly quick, and it is a big reason why he is so dangerous.
Jamaal Lascelles recently said that Gordon is Newcastle’s fastest player, before admitting that Tino Livramento is not far behind him.
But, interestingly, it is not Gordon or Livramento who has recorded the fastest speed in a Newcastle United shirt this season.

That honour goes to Harvey Barnes.
The 26-year-old has recorded the fastest speed of any Newcastle United player this season, with his top speed being 34.7km per hour.
That is according to BBC Sport and Opta, who have detailed the fastest player at every Premier League club so far this season.
Micky van de Ven is the fastest in the entire Premier League, clocking in at 37.1km per hour. That is incredible for a centre-back.
But the fact that Barnes is top for Newcastle showcases the blistering speed that the Magpies have in attack. He is above Gordon, while he has also ran quicker than Isak, who is also pretty pacey.
Interestingly, one of the fastest players in the Premier League is Anthony Elanga. The Nottingham Forest winger has recorded a speed of 35.9km per hour.
Newcastle tried to sign Elanga on transfer deadline day, but Nottingham Forest rejected the Magpies’ approach. He would have added even more speed to Eddie Howe’s attack.
Why Anthony Gordon is not top for Newcastle
While there is no denying that Barnes is incredibly quick, there is perhaps a reason why he has produced a higher speed than Gordon.
It has been an unsettled start to the season for Gordon. He was clearly shy of match sharpness at the beginning of the campaign, and did look a bit lethargic.
Now he appears to be much sharper, but has spent the past couple of Premier League games operating as a striker. That has perhaps limited Gordon’s ability to hit top speed, as he has rarely been given a chance to run into lots of space.
In contrast, Barnes got a proper pre-season under his belt, while he has played out wide and had more space to gallop in to.
