Constant monitoring’ – Leicester City keeping close eye on Stoke City loan ace amid transfer interest claims

Stoke City man Tom Cannon is being regularly watched by parent club Leicester City as they plan out his future, Foxes boss Steve Cooper has said.
Stoke City were the eventual winners in the long summer battle to sign Leicester City striker Cannon.

The Potters secured a season-long loan deal for the Irishman and while he has only scored in one of his five Championship games for the club, he hauled in four as Narcis Pelach’s side thrashed a sorry Portsmouth.

Despite getting the deal done though, the loan man is still being linked with a move elsewhere in January. It was recently claimed that Championship rivals Sheffield United and West Brom are keeping tabs on Cannon with parent club Leicester open to a permanent winter sale at the right price.

Now, amid those claims, Foxes boss Steve Cooper has spoken openly about how the club are closely monitoring his progress at Stoke City. As quoted by Leicestershire Live, he said:

“When we can, first-team staff will go to as many games as we can.

“We’ve already been to see Tom and Ben [Nelson, on loan at Oxford United] and one or two others. And obviously we have recruitment staff (going to games). So there’s a constant monitoring of how these players are doing.

“These loans can be a really important part of an asset at the club’s development. Sometimes, with a loan, it doesn’t always go as a player would hope. It can be seen as not going to plan in terms of not getting the game-time and the minutes, maybe not playing well.
