‘Bigger injury’ – Sheffield Wednesday man to miss Portsmouth trip next weekend after set-back.
Pompey are back in Championship action this weekend
Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah is poised to miss their trip to Fratton Park to face Pompey next week. The Owls are hoping he can be fully fit after the next international break in November.
The 29-year-old, who played once for England back in 2018, has endured a frustrating start to life at Hillsborough. He played once earlier this season but has since been sidelined.
Chalobah is unlikely to be bit for when Sheffield Wednesday take on Pompey on Friday, Octobe 25, and will also sit out of their upcoming fixtures against Burnley and Swansea City.
In this latest update regarding his condition, their boss Danny Röhl told The Star. “He needs time. We have to give him time and now he needs a new pre-season. When he came to us in the summer, he missed some weeks in the pre-season and then he was injured, then a small injury and now a bigger injury. We are building him up on the grass and the goal for us now is for him to get minutes in the next international break. If it is earlier then it will be good, but in the next three weeks when we play every three days the intensity in training is not so high.
“He needs now some rhythm. He started on the grass, this is a good signal after four or five weeks just in the gym, it can be hard in the mind. This is the next big step and we will look from week to week. But now we will give him three or four weeks more so that we can really build up something.”

The Sierra Leone-born man started out at Fulham before Chelsea signed him as a youngster. He rose up through the academy ranks at Stamford Bridge and represented the London outfit at various different youth levels before going on to play 15 times for their first-team. Chalobah was loaned out to Watford, Nottingham Forest, Middlesbrough, Burnley, Reading and Napoli to get some experience. He then moved back to Vicarage Road on a permanent basis in 2017 before further spells at Fulham and West Brom.
The Baggies cut ties with him this past summer and he subsequently linked up with Sheffield Wednesday. He said after joining the Owls: “I’m super excited, ready for the challenge and I’m looking forward to meeting the fans and playing at such a historic stadium.”
