‘Coventry kid’ Marcus, who first joined the Sky Blues from Coventry Schools in 1992 as an apprentice, quickly rose to the ranks of first team professional debuting in the Premier League against Tottenham Hotspur in December 1994. He also subsequently gained England Under 21 and ‘B’ International honours too. Marcus was a regular visitor to the Sky Blues games at the Ricoh prior to the Covid epidemic and our period of exile at Birmingham City (where he was our special last time out in 2020).

Marcus will be hoping to see the Sky Blues turn the corner after five defeats in their last six games with the result at tonight’s Championship game at Queens Park Rangers still to be decided.

Ever popular in various defensive roles, Marcus appeared over 150 times in his first period with the Sky Blues before leaving in 2002. After very short spells with Nottingham Forest and Southampton he settled at Stoke City where he clocked up over 80 appearances for the Potteries outfit. Marcus returned to the CCFC’s new home at the Ricoh in 2005 and doubled his overall appearances total at CCFC to 307 first team games (and five goals).

Leaving City for a second time in 2010 Marcus spent 2010-11 with Northampton Town until released. Among his other activities Marcus has been a Football Consultant with the Sport First Agency. He received his benefit from CCFC in 2009 against Everton and has also turned out in Sky Blue colours in the Serco Midland Masters 6 a side tournament quite a few years ago now as well as a number of ‘Legends’ Charity games. He has been a previous attender at both of CCFPA’s annual reunions Golf Day and Legends Day.
