What Andre Vidigal has to do at Stoke City after two-goal burst at Crewe - Stoke-on-Trent Live

3 right-backs Stoke City should target in January instead of linked Wrexham star

Stoke City were among the clubs linked with a move for Wrexham’s Ryan Barnett on Wednesday as they start to line up winter targets.
Stoke City seem bound to have a busy January transfer window as new boss Narcis Pelach prepares for his first chance to make a real impact on the playing squad at the Bet365 Stadium.

The Spaniard has inherited Steven Schumacher’s squad and one area that will need bolstering is right-back. Amid such a need, rumours of interest in Wrexham ace Ryan Barnett have emerged amid his impressive displays in League One.

However, while Preston North End are also keen, it must be noted that Barnett is at his best in a more attacking role at wing-back. The Potters have played a back four in every game, so a more natural full-back will be needed.

With that said, here are three right-backs Stoke City should have in mind ahead of Barnett…

Oliver Sonne – IF Silkeborg
It was claimed towards the end of the summer transfer window that Coventry City and Burnley were interested in Silkeborg star Sonne and Stoke City could do far worse than looking into a move for him too.

Though born in Denmark, Sonne is a Peru international who mainly plays at right-back. He can be used as a wing-back as well though and regularly covers on the left-hand side.

His deal in Denmark is up in 2026 and after two goals and four assists in 10 Superliga games, a move could await Sonne this winter.
