In fact, Thompson even set a new Mavericks franchise record in just his first game with Dallas, as he knocked down a total of six 3-pointers — the most ever by a Mavs player in a debut for the team — in a 120-109 home win over the San Antonio Spurs.
“With 6s, Klay set a franchise record for most 3-pointers made in a Mavs debut ,” the Mavericks’ official X (formerly Twitter) account posted.
Thompson collected 22 points and shot 7-for-13 from the field against the Spurs, and also grabbed seven rebounds, an assist, and three steals in just 26 minutes of action on the floor. The 34-year-old Thompson was expected to be a major weapon for the Mavs when they acquired him via a three-year, $50 million sign-and-trade transaction over the summer involving the Warriors. Against the Spurs, Thompson immediately showed why the Mavs were high on getting him.
