Away end scenes, Danny Röhl reacts and Michael Smith’s wondergoal – A Sheffield Wednesday recap
Sheffield Wednesday came from behind to beat Portsmouth 2-1 on Friday night thanks to a superb Michael Smith strike.
Connor Ogilvie gave the hosts the lead in the first half at Fratton Park, giving Wednesday work to do if they were to get back into things on the south coast, but after a couple of half time changes things started to go their way and a combination of Barry Bannan, Smith and Josh Windass got them back level.
They battled hard to gain the ascendency, but it was a real moment of quality that ended up sealing the tie as ‘Smudge’ whipped the ball into the top corner with a fantastic first-time strike to make it 2-1, running over to a packed out away end after finding the back of the net to celebrate with the travelling support. You can see that goal and the other highlights below, while some of the manager’s thoughts are in the video at the top of the page.
There were some brilliant scenes in the away end as they celebrated a huge victory, and both Röhl and Chris Powell were on hand to do their thing with the 2,000 plus that had made the trip – you can check them out here:
