Steve Cooper, Manager of Leicester City, looks on during the Premier League match between Southampton FC and Leicester City FC at St Mary's Stadium...

Wilfred Ndidi is Leicester City’s most important player, and three statistics now prove it.

Leicester City will be delighted they were able to keep hold of Wilfred Ndidi during the 2024 summer transfer window.

The Nigerian has garnered interest from other clubs throughout much of his stint at the King Power Stadium and this past summer was no different.

Everton were linked with Wilfred Ndidi in the most recent transfer window along with Ligue 1 sides Lyon and Marseille.

However, despite Leicester City spending 2023/24 in the Championship and preparing for a potential relegation battle in the current campaign, they kept hold of the midfielder.

Ndidi signed a new Leicester contract on July 12th, 2024, and has been a key figure for Steve Cooper in 2024/25 so far.

The 27-year-old has started every Premier League game for the Foxes so far this term and is playing some of his best football.

Ndidi did struggle versus Aston Villa but apart from that outing, he has been so important for the Midlands outfit.

Wilfred Ndid now leading Premier League in key area, he’s crucial for Leicester City
Leicester lost 3-1 to Nottingham Forest last time out and were far from their best in the Friday evening clash.

However, while Cooper’s men failed to perform in that defeat, it has now been revealed that Ndidi, who is earning £75,000-a-week at Leicester is top of the Premier League for one key stat.

As per Opta, no player has made more tackles than Ndidi (33) in the Premier League this season, whilst the midfielder also ranks second for most duels won overall (64).

Given he is a defensive midfielder by trade, it is impressive but not too surprising that Ndidi is among the best in the top flight for defensive stats.

However, what is pretty staggering is the fact only Bukayo Saka (7), Mohamed Salah (5) and Cole Palmer (5) have earned more assists than the Leicester star (4) in the Premier League so far in 2024/25.

These stats show just how important Ndidi is to Leicester right now and how pleased the club should be he signed a new contract over the summer.
