Sunderland favourite makes Arsenal legend declaration after Oxford United stunner
Sunderland loan star Wilson Isidor believes Thierry Henry would have been proud of his goal against Oxford United on Saturday.
Sunderland signed forward Isidor on loan in the summer transfer window and the Frenchman has been in fine form since coming into the Black Cats’ starting XI.
There were bright sparks in his first three games as he came on off the bench in each of them, but few anticipated the Zenit St. Petersburg loan man would catch alight quite like he has done since coming into the starting XI.
Isidor was first called upon against Watford with Eliezer Mayenda out injured and despite defeat, he was the scorer of the Black Cats’ only goal.
He’s gone from strength to strength since then, managing four goals in six starts. After a fantastic solo goal against Hull City, Isidor bagged the best of the bunch on Saturday as he fired a volley into the far corner against Oxford United, watching the ball come over his shoulder before lashing home.
The strike only strengthened comparisons between the new Sunderland star and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, and Isidor feels it was a goal the French hero would be proud of.
Speaking to Keith Downie, Isidor said:
“I’m the biggest fan of Thierry Henry so that’s why I wanted to celebrate like that (goal vs Oxford). Is it a goal Thierry would have been proud of? I think so!”
