The sense of relief at the final whistle was palpable, the storm clouds moving swiftly away from the CBS Arena after an uplifting and much-needed win and three points.
As fans, we’ve all been through the wringer a bit lately, witnessing poor form and bad results that has had some of the more loyal supporters starting to wonder if it was the beginning of the end of Mark Robins’ incredible reign as Coventry City manager.
A vocal minority, meanwhile, as is always the case when times get tough, were ready to call time on his tenure, and that feeling would clearly have ramped up further had the Sky Blues lost to Luton. Even the City boss admitted in his post-match press conference that he “could have lost his job” amid the mounting ‘noise’ around the club. But fair play to Doug King, he’s stuck by Robins and clearly believes in his ability. And all credit to Robins for remaining steadfast in his confidence in his current crop of players whom, he maintains, is his strongest overall squad he’s had in the last seven or so seasons.
