Luton Town – The Thoughts Of Honest Rob – West Bromwich Albion (h)

The Hatters have played 13 games this season, in their 2024/2024 EFL campaign and won just 3.

That statistic, particularly when you consider we were playing Premier League football last season, doesn’t sit well with me.

Indeed, I hope the playing staff aren’t relying on win bonuses to boost their salaries to a reasonable level.

Last night, against a West Bromwich side who had not won for 6 EFL Championship games, Luton Town produced another performance that, to me, failed to inspire.

The spirit may have been there but the class was lacking, especially when it came to creating and finishing any chances created.

Recent results have left Rob Edwards under mounting pressure and looking at Rob I have to say that sparkle in his eyes and the smiling demeanour that were his trademark, look to be diminishing as he struggles to turnaround our season.

Talking to the BBC, after the 1-1 draw, the gaffer had this to say:

“A point was what we got and we have to take it but we deserved more. The momentum was with us the whole time. And we hit the woodwork with Hashy.”

A neutral might say the momentum was with Luton Town because the opposition were so poor, but did we ever look like putting the game to bed?

Continuing, Rob added:

“To concede at the time we did just before the break made us make some changes and we had to take a few more risks, but that’s what we’re paid for.”

The delay was unfortunate and I sincerely hope the West Bromwich Albion supporter who was taken ill, makes a full and speedy recovery, but to concede in stoppage time is unfortunate and kudos to Rob for implementing the changes he mentioned.

Continuing, Rob further added:

“We’ve had three really good performances here at the Kenny in a row – and I really think we should have won all three.”

One good performance, one above average and one I’d consider as average, have resulted in a win, a loss and a draw, just 4 points out of the 9 available, not good enough I’d scribe if compiling a report.

Luton Town host Cardiff City, in midweek, a fixture that, I believe, carries the status of must win, but will that be the case?
