Luton Town: The fall and rise of a football club eventually saved by love

Luton Town Grab A Much Needed Point Against A Poor West Bromwich Albion Side

I’m not quite sure what to make of what I witnessed last night when the Hatters came back from 1-0 down to snatch a 1-1 draw against West Bromwich Albion.

Perhaps the biggest point I should make is that we didn’t lose and the point gained lifted the Hatters out of the relegation zone, but, I felt we should have done so much better.

Okay, our injury situation continues to hamper us but we were taking on an EFL Championship side that also had injury problems and were on a run of form that hadn’t seen them win in their last six games and hadn’t scored in their last two games.

Indeed, in the first half, West Bromwich Albion looked like the side occupying the relegation places, as opposed to us, content to remain on the back foot and not being threatening at all.

But, somehow, they went into the half-time break ahead, scoring in the alloated period of stoppage time, courtesy of a stoppage to the game when an away supporter was taken ill.

In a poor first half, it must be said the goal, scored by Josh Maja, was the one moment of real class.

The opening exchanges of the second half were equally as poor but, on the hour mark, the ground burst into life when Tahith Chong equalised with a low shot after Luton Town had broke quickly.

I hoped the goal would lift the game, it did a little and the Hatters will rue the fact that an effort from Daiki Hashioka hit the woodwork, but although a third goal in the game looked like it might come, neither side showed enough class to claim the much-needed win.

Next up is a midweek visit from Cardiff City, a side lurking in a similar position as Luton Town, at the wrong end of the table, a game, I feel, we must win.
