Chicago Bears v Washington Commanders

Matt Eberflus’ lack of accountability has placed him directly on the hot seat.

Chicago Bears fans are still searching for answers when it comes to the clear disconnect between Matt Eberflus and his players following their Week 8 loss to the Washington Commanders.

While Eberflus remains stubbornly defiant, some of his veteran players have begun questioning him. Nearly all of the Bears’ captains have come out in recent days, questioning the closing seconds of the Bears’ loss to the Commanders.

Among the criticisms that were made were DJ Moore questioning the decision from Shane Waldron to call for a dive play to Doug Kramer; Cole Kmet questioning the Bears’ preparation last week; Jaylon Johnson wonder why no timeout was called before the final play of the game; or Kevin Byard wondering why the Bears gave up an easy 13 yards on the second-to-final play of the game.

Overall, this was not a great look on Matt Eberflus and his coaching staff. His lack of humility and honesty this week has done him no favors. Even those who were starting to warm up to him as a head coach completely gave up on him. He has now blown four games with a win probability over 90% and dropped to a 3-17 road record.

The question is, can this team keep it together as they are about to enter the difficult part of the schedule in November. They go to Arizona this Sunday but that game is no longer an automatic win. The Cardinals are 4-4 and have already won at San Francisco and Miami. Eberflus must win the next games against Arizona and New England at home, a 6-3 record can alleviate some of the anger and pain from the Washington game.
