MLS and Premier League Battling Over Josh Sargent

Carlos Corberan makes ‘undeserved’ West Brom point after seeing victory chance snatched awayLuton and West Brom played out a 1-1 draw at Kenilworth Road as the Baggies’ winless run in the Sky Bet Championship stretched to seven matches.

West Brom manager Carlos Corberan admitted his side didn’t merit their lead at the break following a 1-1 draw against Luton, which perpetuated their winless streak in the Sky Bet Championship to seven games.

In a lacklustre first half, it was Josh Maja who put the Baggies ahead with an added-time back-heel from Karlan Grant’s setup – his eighth goal this term. However, Tahith Chong equalised on the hour mark, ensuring the spoils were divided.

Discussing the match, Corberan remarked: “We didn’t deserve to be winning the first half because Luton was playing better than us. The only chance we had, we scored. We didn’t impose our identity to perform. In general we did not do well enough. We were one or two passes short.”

Reflecting further on the team’s performance he added, “We avoided risk, we didn’t see the quality of us as a team and we didn’t impose our identity.”

Despite the point and recognition of the side’s faltering form, particularly given their strong start to the season, Corberan also emphasized the importance of keeping confidence up, saying: “You always want to win games, but it’s better to draw than lose.” He added: “After no games without wins, it’s a feeling that we need to win more. We can’t lose the confidence if we need to recover the feeling.”

The series of draws – five in succession – now leaves the Albion seven points adrift of league leaders Sunderland, having played an extra game.

“The team has been competing well. There’s frustration because we didn’t create as much as normal, we didn’t impose our quality, especially in the attacking half,” said Rob Edwards, Luton’s boss.

He praised Chong, the former Manchester United academy graduate whose second goal of the season came from a brilliant solo run and precise finish, earning his side a point after consecutive losses to Sunderland and Coventry.

“He was really good, we know he’s got it, he won a penalty last week and scored tonight. He’s got loads of quality, we want him to believe and be free in those areas,” Edwards added.
