Stoke City faithful set for ticket price boost after major backlash
Ticket prices have come underfire in the Championship this season as Sheffield United charged Stoke City supporters £38 plus a £1 booking fee
The EFL is expected to impose a cap on away ticket prices following a huge backlash to escalating charges this season.
Stoke supporters had to pay £39 for a seat at Bramall Lane earlier this month, the highest charge since the club was relegated from the Premier League in 2018, prompting an angry response – although tickets still sold out. Ironically, the Premier League has a cap of £30 for away tickets for a much higher standard of football and the Championship is now going to catch up.
The move is set to go to a vote among EFL clubs but Derby County chief executive Stephen Pearce told a Pride Park fans’ forum on Thursday night that the idea has “virtually unanimous support”.
“That’s in hand,” he said. “There have been quite a few clubs – us included – that have been trying to lobby and work with the EFL. We started conversations at the summer conference back in June and they tried to do something this year but it was too soon to get it all through.
