Spurs should be thrilled by what is happening with Ashley Phillips at Stoke
Things are going pretty well for Ashley Phillips of late, and the Spurs defender has been discussing how happy he is at Stoke City this season.
Ashley Phillips shines for Stoke
Ashley Phillips started off the week with his first professional goal in Stoke’s 3-2 defeat to Southampton in the Carabao Cup.
While the result didn’t go the way of the Potters, with Southampton bagging an injury-time winner, it was a valiant showing from the Championship outfit, and Phillips’ clever goal was a real highlight.
Then, at the weekend, Stoke registered a 2-1 win over Derby County to go level on points with the Rams.
Phillips completed the full 90 minutes in both those games, and got a positive review from Stoke-on-Trent Live’s post-match report. They wrote: “Pretty untroubled at centre-half and shows character too, like when fighting for the ball when he stayed up at a corner,” as they gave him a rating of 7 out of 10.
Being closer to home has helped Ashley Phillips
It looks like Phillips is making real progress now after a slow start to the season due to a concussion setback. Speaking to BBC Radio Stoke, the young defender discussed how happy he is at Stoke.
He said: “I was born in Manchester, which is just up the road. When I was at Plymouth, I was on the other side of the country, which was difficult. But here I feel a lot more comfortable – and I’ve settled in really quickly.
