Narcis Pelach held a talk with the Stoke City squad at the start of this third three-game week in a row to hammer home his goalscoring belief.

Pelach banged the desk twice in his post-match press conference after a 2-0 win at Blackburn to emphasise his point about a killer instinct needed in both boxes in the Championship – and he believes he can see growing thanks to the form at one end of Viktor Johansson and the forwards at the other, including Million Manhoef and Tom Cannon, who both scored last night.

He said: “Before the start of the week we had a meeting talking about our potential going towards goal. I said I didn’t know exactly what they thought as a team but I would tell them what we thought as a staff. We have goals. There are many players who can score a goal. We have to be organised but we will find a way to score one, two or even three goals in a game.

“We have players who can do it and we need to believe it. We need to make sure that every time we have a chance it is [Pelach bangs twice on the desk] it is a problem for the opponent. I’m pleased because we scored two, could have maybe scored another one but of course we are making steps.”

The Blackburn win was his first away win as head coach and Stoke’s first back-to-back league wins of the season.

Pelach said: “It’s good to get back-to-back wins, it’s good to build confidence – but it’s just a win. We now have an important game to play on Saturday and we have to make sure we are on the top of our game.”
