Permanent Francisco Trincao switch to Wolves under threat as Sporting make winger a 'priority'

One player Gary O’Neil should buy at Wolves and one he should sell in the January transfer window.

Wolves may have recorded their first three points on the board before the international break but supporters are still longing for the January transfer window to roll around.

Wolves are embroiled in a relegation battle at the bottom of the Premier League. Gary O’Neil’s men are currently two points from safety, even after beating Southampton 2-0 last weekend.

The Wanderers have admittedly entered the international break in a better place than in October however, there is one glaringly obvious mistake they made during the summer.

Supporters wanted the club to replace captain Max Kilman, who joined West Ham for £45m, though Matt Hobbs was adamant Wolves didn’t need to replace Kilman.

That has come back to bite them in a sense, as they’ve been in dire straits at the back and their lack of depth was exposed after Yerson Mosquera suffered a season-ending injury.

Wolves should sign Eric Dier in January
Shopping for a new centre-back in January should be at the top of their list as O’Neil currently has just three senior centre-backs available.

An injury to one of Craig Dawson, Santi Bueno or Toti Gomes would leave the Old Gold dangerously thin, with youngster Alfie Pond perhaps needing to step up.

That is why Wolves should throw everything at signing Eric Dier, whose contract at German giants Bayern Munich expires next summer.

With a wealth of Premier League experience under his belt – playing 274 times for Tottenham in all competitions – signing the Englishman feels like a no-brainer.

Dier has only made 26 appearances for Bayern since making the switch in the summer of 2023 and Wolves should offer the 30-year-old a route back to England’s top-flight.

He’s an imposing figure, great with the ball at his feet and a leader in defence but perhaps most importantly, knows the division inside out and could inspire Wolves to survival.

Wolves should consider selling Pablo Sarabia
O’Neil would perhaps need to make some room in the wage department to sign Dier and he could do so by offloading Pablo Sarabia in January.

Although Sarabia scored against Southampton last time out and has shown his worth in recent weeks, the Spanish playmaker is the joint-highest earner at Molineux, earning £90k-a-week, per Capology.
