Altuve, Alvarez, Valdez named to All-MLB Second Team

HOUSTON — Astros second baseman Jose Altuve, designated hitter Yordan Alvarez and left-handed pitcher Framber Valdez were named to the 2024 All-MLB Second Team on Thursday.

All-time winners of All-MLB Awards
All-MLB honors, first established in 2019, recognize the best players at each position across the Majors, with both First and Second Team selections. Voters were asked to consider only performance during the regular season.

It’s the fourth year Alvarez has been named to an All-MLB team (Second Team in 2023 and ’19, First Team in ’22). Altuve was All-MLB First Team in ’22 and Second Team in ’21 and ’19. Valdez was First Team in ’22.

Altuve batted .295 with 20 homers, 31 doubles, 65 RBIs, 22 stolen bases and a .790 OPS in 153 games last season, leading the AL in batting average against left-handed pitchers (.370). He reached 20 homers and 20 steals for the third time in his career, becoming the oldest Astros player (34) to reach that mark, while being selected to his ninth All-Star team.

Alvarez hit .308 with 35 homers, 86 RBIs and a .959 OPS, tied for fourth in the AL in multihit games (53) and fourth in on-base percentage (.392), batting average and OPS. He also tied for first in the Majors with seven multi-homer games and was voted as the starting DH in the All-Star Game.
