Heard, 20, saw his previous deal at The Hawthorns expire at the end of last season and he weighed up his options before committing another year to the Championship side, with the club holding the option for. a further season on top of that.

He has said, as per a report by the Express & Star: “Opportunities came about and I only signed a one-year contract, so I was exploring other options. I wasn’t definitely wanting to go, I was just exploring elsewhere.

“I expecting to come back in and just train with the under-21s, but the gaffer trusted me and he understood the situation, that I only signed a one-year contract and wanted to explore other options.

“Credit to him (Carlos Corberan), because it could have gone the other way where he could have thought ‘he doesn’t want to play for West Brom anymore’. He was really good, I can’t talk him up enough.”

He was loaned out for the first time in the last campaign when Hednesford Town came calling.

The prospect was given his West Brom debut in January earlier this year in an FA Cup clash against Aldershot Town.

Heard has since played once more for Carlos Corberan’s side and will be eyeing more minutes down the line.

A move away would have given Heard more of a chance of getting senior football.

He will face a battle to get into West Brom’s team due to the more experienced options that they have at their disposal in his position.

The Baggies face Norwich City at home this weekend.
