Leicester City loanee Ben Nelson faces lengthy injury spell
BEN Nelson could be out for up to four months with the quad injury he suffered before the international break.
The 20-year-old centre back, on loan at Oxford United from Leicester City, was forced off just after the hour mark in United’s 1-0 win at home to Hull City earlier this month.
Nelson then missed the trip to Watford, and U’s head coach Des Buckingham expects the defender to miss a minimum of two months.
Buckingham said: “It’s probably the worst outcome we could’ve asked for. He’s torn a couple of the tendons on one of his quads.
“It’s not going to be a quick return. We’re talking a good two, three or maybe four months to get him back to where he was and on the pitch.
“I’m devastated for him because he was starting to really show the type of player he is and can be at this level.
“It’s now making sure we work with Leicester to get him back and get him fit, and help him back on his journey.”
Nelson previously posted on Instagram: “Gutted to have picked up a serious injury in my last game. Was really enjoying every minute of playing, but unfortunately these things happen in football. I have had surgery and I’m now on the road to recovery.”
