Alex Bregman drawing interest from AL playoff team
Free agent third baseman Alex Bregman is reportedly drawing interest from an American League playoff team that has a notable connection to him already.
The Detroit Tigers have registered some interest in Bregman, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. The Tigers are managed by AJ Hinch, who managed Bregman with the Houston Astros through the 2019 season.
Heyman notes that Bregman might be too expensive for the Tigers, but the team has at least checked in on the free agent third baseman. The Tigers certainly have a need at the position, and more generally, they could benefit from an established right-handed bat that can play a role in the middle of their lineup.
The 30-year-old Bregman is one of the most in-demand free agents of the offseason. He hit .260 with 26 home runs for the Astros in 2024 and won the Gold Glove at the position for the first time in his career. Some recent rumors have suggested he is looking for a massive deal on the open market, and the Tigers probably would not be involved at that price.
