Daniel Farke reveals new Leeds United injury for senior star after win v Luton.
Daniel Farke has revealed that Sam Byram suffered a hamstring injury as Leeds United beat Luton Town in the Championship.
Elland Road hosted the Hatters in the league on 27 November, and goals from the left-back, Joel Piroe and Daniel James sealed an impressive victory for the Whites.
Byram was one of the best players on the pitch before he had to be substituted at around the hour mark, and speaking after the game, as relayed by BBC Radio Leeds journalist Adam Pope on X, Farke disclosed that the defender was taken off as a precaution.
“Daniel Farke said it was a dominant performance,” he wrote. “Annoyed about conceding a few chances but overall very pleased.
“Byram (hamstring) was brought off as a precaution and hopefully will be ok for Saturday. Solomon fine despite seen holding his left leg during game.”
Sam Byram injury a blow to Leeds United after Luton win
Leeds have had to contend with several fitness issues in the current campaign, with Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev just some of the names the German manager hasn’t been able to call upon in recent months.
Junior Firpo was handed a three-match ban after his scuffle with a Millwall player on 6 November [BBC, 9 November], but thankfully for the Elland Road faithful, the Dominican will be available for the game against Blackburn Rovers on 30 November.
While the former Barcelona star’s comeback will be good news for the Whites, Byram’s potential absence could be a massive blow as he’s provided cover on both the right and left-hand side of the defence in the current campaign.
The 31-year-old has lost his place in the starting lineup this term, but his recent performances have shown that the Englishman is still a valuable member of the Peacocks’ squad.
It remains to be seen whether the defender’s knock is serious, but looking at Farke’s comments, it seems Byram will be fine.
Leeds are at the top of the league table due to goal difference after being level on points with Sheffield United and the German manager needs all the tools at his disposal to take the Whites back into the Premier League.
